Blooming Now was on hiatus last year. I spent last Homestead spring exploring summer in Australia. This Flying duck orchid (Caleana major) was photographed in Tasmania last January.

NEW
– As with many years before, the first wildflower of the season is Fetid adder’s tongue (Scoliopus bigelovii). This small lily is just starting to bloom in the woods along the Homestead Trail. Hard to spot with its small delicate flower, it gets easier once the large bright, mottled leaves emerge in the coming weeks.

– Bay laurel (Umbellularia californica), one of our most common trees, is blooming with clusters of fragrant, cream flowers.
